Canada Study Visa – Required Documents (2025)

This checklist covers both SDS (Student Direct Stream) and Non-SDS applications. It is formatted for Bangladesh applicants but applies generally.

1. Acceptance Letter (LOA)

  • Official Letter of Acceptance from a DLI (Designated Learning Institution).
  • Must include program name, tuition fees, duration, and start date.

2. Passport

  • Valid for the full study duration.
  • Include old passports (if any) showing travel history.

3. Proof of Tuition Payment

For SDS, you must show at least 1-year tuition paid.

  • Payment receipt from the institution
  • Bank statement showing the transfer
  • Letter from college confirming payment

4. Proof of Funds

Option A – GIC (SDS)

  • $20,635 CAD GIC (2025 amount, confirm with bank/institution at time of application).
  • GIC Certificate from an accepted bank (examples: Scotiabank, RBC, CIBC, BMO, ICICI Canada, SBI Canada).

Option B – Non-SDS

  • Minimum 4–6 months bank statement(s) showing sufficient funds.
  • Sponsor’s bank statement and supporting documents.
  • Sponsorship affidavit (notarized), income documents (salary slips, business papers, tax returns).

5. Academic Documents

  • SSC / HSC / O-Level / A-Level certificates (as applicable).
  • Bachelor / Master transcripts and degree certificates.
  • Transfer certificate (if applicable).
  • IELTS / TOEFL / PTE result (if required by the DLI).

6. Statement of Purpose (SOP)

Your SOP should clearly explain:

  • Why you chose Canada.
  • Why this specific program and institution.
  • Your career plan and how the program fits it.
  • Why you will return to your home country after studies (if applicable).
  • How you will fund your studies.

7. Medical Exam (IME)

  • Completed medical exam by an authorized panel physician.
  • Upload any required medical documents such as the Upfront Medical Sheet.

8. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)

  • Bangladesh Police Clearance (or police certificates from other countries where applicable).
  • Should generally be less than 6 months old at time of application — confirm current requirements.

9. Digital Photo

  • Standard passport-style photo (example size: 35mm x 45mm) — follow the visa office specifications.
  • White background, high resolution.

10. Family / Ties Documents (Non-SDS)

  • Marriage certificate (if married).
  • Children’s birth certificates (if applicable).
  • Property or land documents to show ties to home country.
  • Job letter, NID or national ID of sponsor, and relationship proof.

11. Additional Supporting Documents

  • CV / Resume.
  • Work experience letters (if employed).
  • Tuition payment strategy explanation (how you will pay remaining tuition and living costs).
  • Property evaluation or other financial evidence (optional but helpful).
